Find an Art Therapist

The Evergreen Art Therapy Association cannot endorse the services of these clinicians, however, each of them have undergone rigorous training and have been credentialed.

When looking for an art therapist elsewhere, such as on sites like Psychology Today, please look for art therapist credentials after a person’s name. These could be: ATR-P (provisional art therapist), ATR (registered art therapist), ATR-BC (board certified art therapist: this means additional experience and passing the board examination).

Some therapists check the “Art Therapy” box but are not credentialed by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB). This means they may use art in therapy, but it’s not art therapy.

If you’d like to confirm that someone is a licensed art therapist, click below to be redirected to the ATCB website.

  • Stephanie Leftwich-Needham, LMHC, ATR-BC

    Kaleidoscope Art Therapy & Counseling

I have spent much of my life seeking a way to blend a deep desire to help people with my need for creative practices. A love of stories led to studies in English and then teaching Rhetoric and Writing at the college level. While I enjoyed crafting language and analyzing texts, engaging with my students was most fulfilling. Time spent in Women Writing for (a) Change circles showed me the healing power of creative writing. I learned to facilitate groups that were highly therapeutic and decided to go a step further by becoming a therapist. Art therapy allows me to help people find healing through compassionate creativity. A thesis focused on eco-art therapy and subsequent training with the Center for Mind-Body Medicine round out my approach.

I treat children, adolescents, couples and families in a collaborative process to explore concerns and challenges that may have arisen in their lives. In addition to traditional therapy, sessions may also include art therapy, as I have often found this helpful when words alone may not be enough to express and process difficult thoughts or feelings. I have utilized art therapy with elders impacted by dementia to create significant gains in mood and cognition.
I believe in fostering a supportive connection between our thoughts and feelings to create the possibility for insight, hope and positive change.

While working with me, your child will learn to creatively use their strengths to cope with major life adjustments (parents separating, a new sibling, grief, moving homes or a new school, and/or academic challenges), anxiety, or chronic illness and physical disability. One way your child is constantly developing is their verbal communication. Creative therapy techniques are effective for kids and adolescents as it allows them to non-verbally tell their story through pictures and play.
