February 2018
The Veteran & Military Resource Center (VMRC) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) welcomed art therapists Brenda Maltz, ATR-P and Valli Rebsamen, ATR-BC to facilitate an evening art making experiential for current students. At the start of the evening, many participants claimed to have "no artistic talent/experience". At the end of the evening all students reported feeling proud of their final products and were intrigued with the poignancy of images and thoughts that emerged. This event was in-part intended to support veteran and military-connected students transitions from "military-to-civilian" life changes.

The "Mirrors Project" offered UWT students a blank mirror, image and collage making materials. Many students gravitated toward the vintage collection of stamps to incorporate into their collages that often elicited individualized meaning through images and geographic locations. Students provided consent to have their images photographed and shared in this format.
